Chief planner issues CIL outsourcing note

The government's chief planner has issued guidance to local planning authorities on new rules that allow them to outsource most of their functions relating to the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

An order which came into force on 7 December 2011 allows local authorities to contract out their functions relating to the new developer levy to other organisations.

In an explanatory memorandum sent to local planning authorities last week, the government’s chief planner Steve Quartermain says that the order will give local authorities "greater freedom and choice in how they carry out their levy functions".
