Yorwaste invests £1.2m to double capacity

Yorkshire-based recycling company Yorwaste hopes the £1.2 million it has invested in doubling the capacity of its MRF outside York will allow it to increase the percentage of waste being diverted from landfill from 60 per cent to 80 per cent within six months.

The Harewood Whin Resource Recovery Centre can now process 80,000 tonnes of waste a year, while the company is also investing in new equipment so that any waste not recycled can be converted into a solid recovered fuel.

The centre largely caters for the company's commercial and industrial clients. Yorwaste has already managed to divert all of Nestle's UK waste away from landfill.

Site manager Craig Capper said: "The extension to the recycling building, along with the investment in new equipment, brings us considerably close to offering a zero waste to landfill option to all our customers."
